Nobody likes calling three companies to find out what a tree costs. Here is the honest version.
Tree removal cost is the question we get most, usually asked with a little dread. The short answer for Carmel and Hamilton County: our removals start at $1,400 for trees under 30 feet, $2,500 for trees between 30 and 60 feet, and $4,000 for trees over 60 feet. The longer answer is what this post is about, because the tree in your yard is not an average tree, and the number on your quote depends on a few things you can see from your kitchen window.
Height Sets the Starting Point
Height is the first thing we look at because it decides how the tree comes down. A 25-foot ornamental can often be felled in one piece into an open yard and cut up on the ground. A 50-foot maple has to be climbed or reached with a lift, taken apart limb by limb, and lowered in sections. A 70-foot oak is a full day with rigging and a crew, and every piece that comes off it is heavy. That is why the tiers jump the way they do.
Diameter Is the Second Number
Two trees the same height can be very different jobs. A tall, skinny pine cuts and hauls quickly. A short, fat silver maple with a four-foot trunk produces an enormous amount of wood that has to be cut, moved, and loaded. Trunk diameter, measured at chest height, is the quickest way for us to estimate how much material we are dealing with, and it can move a quote up or down within its tier.
Access Is the Wild Card
This is the one homeowners underestimate. A tree in the middle of a front yard with the truck parked at the curb is easy. The same tree in a fenced backyard, ten feet from the house, with a power drop on one side and the neighbor’s new patio on the other, is not. Tight access means more rigging, more hand-carrying, more time, and more care. It is also where you want a crew that has done it before, because the cost of a mistake is a lot higher than the cost of the removal.
What Is Included
Our tree removal quotes include the cutting, the hauling, and the cleanup. When we leave, the yard is raked and the only sign we were there is the stump. If you want the wood for a fire pit, tell us and we will cut it to length and stack it at no charge. Delivery to an address outside Hamilton County has a fee.
Stump grinding is quoted separately. Some people want the stump gone the same week; some are happy to let it sit until spring; some plan to turn it into a planter. Keeping it as its own line means you decide.
What Can Add to the Price
- A tree that is already split, hanging, or resting on a structure, which becomes an emergency removal
- Trees near utility lines, where the utility has to make the line safe first
- Very large diameters that need extra hauling trips
- Removals during a widespread storm, when demand is high and crews are stretched
How to Get an Accurate Number
Photos help, but the real quote happens in the yard. We come out, look at the tree and everything around it, and give you a verbal estimate on the spot. Then you get it in writing by text or email, and nothing gets scheduled until you say so. There is no fee for the visit and no pressure afterward.
