Tree stump removal means digging the whole root ball out of the ground, which leaves a crater and tears up the lawn around it. Stump grinding chews the stump into small pieces down below grade, leaves the deep roots to decay naturally, and lets you rake it level right away. For almost every yard, grinding is faster, cleaner, and cheaper, and it is what we recommend unless you are excavating for a foundation or a pool.

If the tree is still standing, the simplest route is to have us handle tree and stump removal in one visit. We quote the tree removal and the grinding as separate lines so you can see exactly what each costs, and having the equipment already on site keeps the total down. Once the stump is gone, we can also seed or sod the bare spot so it blends back into the lawn.

Is stump grinding better than stump removal?
For nearly every yard, yes. Grinding is faster, leaves a much smaller hole, and costs less. Full removal only makes sense when the ground is being excavated anyway.
How deep do you grind?
Several inches below grade, deep enough to seed grass or lay sod over the spot. If you plan to plant a new tree in the same place, tell us and we will grind deeper.
What happens to the grindings?
We use them to backfill the hole and rake the area level. If you would rather have them hauled away, we can do that too; cleanup and haul-off is quoted as its own line.
Can I plant over a ground stump?
Grass, yes, right away. For a new tree or shrub, it is best to remove most of the grindings and bring in topsoil, which we can do as part of the job.
